In Fond Remembrance...
This
page is dedicated to all those who have lost the gentle friendship of a
faithful companion animal.
Emily
came to ACAR after being abandoned by her owner. Her nails were incredible
long, twisting her toes sideways; to the point she could hardly walk. Dirty,
infected ears, her neck was raw from wearing a wet leather collar. She
was a very happy, loving, sweet elderly dog with a wonderful Lab personality.
She had a wonderful family wanting to adopt and care for her but sadly
it was not to be. Emily
tested heartworm positive and the treatment for them was just more than
she could endure. We would like to thank Ron
& Judy Turner of North Berwick, ME for
caring for Emily during her illness. This kind family adopted another senior
Lab from us named Brandy. We wish them all the best.

After years and years as a chained
dog, poor Bentley finally
got the wonderful home he so richly deserved. He had daily walks, fresh
food and water; he'd lay back and watch Animal Planet with his mistress
while being made a fuss over. Sadly Bentley's
life ended unexpectedly. He will be remembered always by Julie
& Joey and all those who had the honor
of knowing him.

Snowball
was a white shorthaired cat found abandoned in the snow with frostbitten
ears, who had to be convinced to trust people enough to be rescued. Already
an older kitty, she nevertheless enjoyed over 5 more years of warm sunny
places to curl up and nap, along with lots of love and affection after
being adopted by ACAR member Lynn.
Josie
was abandoned by a family who moved from Somersworth and left her behind.
A kind neighbor took in the big black and white girl and turned her over
to ACAR, thinking she was pregnant. Sadly, she had a large inoperable tumor
and couldn't be saved, but for the last two weeks of her life she had a
warm bed, good food, and lots of love in her foster home thanks to Another
Chance and the generosity of our supporters.
Empras (or Empress) was
a beautiful longhaired Siamese who came to ACAR as an elderly kitty whose
family could no longer keep her. Although she didn't find a forever home
through adoption, she loved her foster mom, Lynn, and was dearly loved
by all her foster family. Her last months were happy ones, except for her
declining health. When she wasn't curled up in her comfy heated bed, she
loved to sit in the window and watch the chipmunks playing in the garden.
She's buried there now but her loving soul is free and she will be remembered
forever.

knew him. Sadly Missed.
Neeka
beloved canine to Gloria, Anna & Elinor
Ravesi of Alfred, ME. May happy memories of
Neeka always be with you.
Ranger
was an elderly yellow lab we rescued from a miserable life of living alone
under a car hood in a junkyard. Ranger
had a very kind gentle soul. Buddy was an elderly Shepherd/Lab X who was
abandoned many times, eventually ending up living in a basement for six
months before being rescued by a kind soul. Ranger
and Buddy lived their last few years of life
with ACAR volunteer Julie Fernee
on her farm in No. Berwick, ME. They enjoyed leisurely walks in the woods
and lots of attention. So many companion animals have had the honor of
living their retirement years at Julie's home. We remember them fondly.
In memory of a canine named Java.
May you always remember Java with a smile and thoughts of happier times.
Mark Schlegall of Ogunquit, ME
Bando
was a kitten who suffered from severely damaged lungs. He came to ACAR
along with his stray mother and littermates. Though the rest of the litter
was fine, Bando was
very small & sickly. His Mom was spayed and adopted along with the
rest of his litter. Bando
remained with us. With excellent vet care and medication, Bando
enjoyed a good quality of life for the time he had left. He will remain
forever young. Sadly missed.
Mikki
a little black cat that was declawed and skinny passed away. She was a
very sweet girl. Her life was too short but she left behind happy memories.
The Allen Family of North Berwick, ME
Darcy was
always such a sweet and loving cat. She had the loudest purr and the biggest
double paws on all fours, & I am going to miss her terribly. I know
ten years in a loving home is better than a few years on the street, so
I'll try to find comfort in that, but I'm just feeling heartbroken right
now. Thanks for listening. Nancy Parks-Smith,
Kitty Cat Lane of Newfield, ME. A more trusting
soul will never be. Sadly missed by all.
Feathers
was an 8-week-old loving little Maine Coon kitten who passed away unexpectedly.
Though her time with us was short, she had the very best of care and she
knew that she was very much cherished. She is dearly loved and missed by
her foster mom
and all those who had the honor of knowing her.
Jack-O-Bean
Much loved Black Lab to Taryn Eldridge of
Berwick, ME A cherished companion is a heartbreaking
loss…may happier memories of times together remain.
Abbey was
a 5-month-old English Mastiff puppy. Abbey was purchase over the Internet
from a breeder in Arkansas. This poor sweet little girl was critically
ill when she was surrendered to us. Abbey's suffering came to an end when
she passed away during emergency surgery. Her short pain-filled life ended
because of her owner's lack of veterinary care for Hookworms, which is
a common parasite in the south. The treatment for Hookworm is very inexpensive.
We wish that we could have gotten Abbey a lot sooner...the outcome would
have been very different. Her vet, rescuers
and her adoptive family to be dearly miss
Abbey. We will never forget her.
